How Save Money While Dining With Kids

The best way to save money on your food budget is not to eat out at restaurants. However, every once in a while it is fun not to have to cook for a night and take your family out for dinner. This does not seem possible as it costs at least $30-$40 to go out as a couple with two or three young children. Here are some ways to spend a lot less than that.

Valupak

At the beginning of each month, you should get a thick blue envelope in the mail. This is called Valupak and it includes coupons for local businesses. There are many buy one get one free dinner coupons in these envelopes. They also include buy one get one entrée half off and a certain percent off your meal. Save any of these coupons that you may use.

Find out when kids eat free

Several restaurants have one or more nights a week where kids eat free. This is usually a weeknight. If this information is not posted on the signs out in front of the restaurants, call and ask. This is a large cost savings if you are buying two or more kids meals.

Sign up for birthday clubs

Many of the local restaurants will have birthday clubs for adults and children. If you fill out a short form either online or a card in the restaurant, you will receive a coupon for a free entrée or kids meal on your birthday. Sometimes it has to be used on the actual day, other times it may be used during the week or month of your birthday. Sign up for all of these clubs so you can choose your favorite when it is your big day.

Split a kids meal

If you have two small children, they can easily split one kids meal. If the meal includes a drink, then purchase a small drink for the other child. If the meal does not include a drink, just ask for water for both children.

Skip the alcoholic drinks

Alcohol is greatly marked up when served at a restaurant. For the price of one glass of wine at a restaurant, a bottle can be purchased at the supermarket. If you order water or even soft drinks, you will save a lot of money. If you order soft drinks, make sure to ask your server if the refills are free before asking for one.
